My day began shortly before 8am, today. In the morning, the weather was gorgeous, merely a bit cold. The first thing I did was to go looking for an ATM, which I found at the train station. Even though you can pay with your card almost everywhere, I feel much more comfortable having cash in the right currency on me. At the train station I also bought something to eat. Originally, I had planned to walk to the museum, but then I remembered that there is the Lake Geneva. And since the weather is supposed to get worse, I wanted to make the best of the morning sun and went straight to the lake to have breakfast there.
I went a short ways along the lake until I found a place I liked. I sat down on a brick wall and ate my Croissant. A young swan kept me company. Later, I figured out why; he was hoping I would share with him. Yet a bit later, someone fed the birds and swans, ducks, seagulls and songbirds likewise gathered to get the bread crumbs.
I spent a very long time at the lake, so I wouldn’t have had any chance on making it to the cinema on foot. I went back to the train station – on the way there, I photographed the moon, crossed a few small squares and walked through a flea market – where I took a tram to the cinema.
Getting to the cinema was a bit strange, because it is situated in a mall and I had to walk across it completely. On a Sunday. Therefore, everything was closed and only a handful of people, who also wanted to go to the cinema, were there. The cinema is really modern and huge. Since it was a matinée screening, there were almost no visitors. I was in an enormous hall with only 10 other people. When the movie started I was surprised to see that the subtitles were in German and French. That’s something you probably only see in Switzerland. The movie was amazing and, luckily, the dual subtitles weren’t distracting.
After the movies, I walked through small side streets to get back to the city center. I got something for lunch there and sat down in the sun to eat. When clouds gathered up, I decided to go to the Salève, because the weather forecast is worse for the next days.
I took the bus for the larger part of the trip but walked the last 2km. And all of a sudden, I was back in France! I took the cable car up the Salève. The weather didn’t hold up for very long, but I did manage to get a few shots before it started to rain. At first, I had tried to wait out the rain, but when it hadn’t gotten any lighter after half an hour, I decided to descend and return to Geneva.
On the bus ride back to the city, I got so tired – and the weather not the least bit better – that I chose to return to the hostel to unwind, so I would be back at a 100% tomorrow.
At the hostel, I edited picture, watched Netflix for the first time since leaving Germany, read and looked up what I wanted to do tomorrow. There are a few things I can do for free with my Geneva Pass (like going up Mount Salève). I think that I’ll go to CERN, that’s probably interesting. Also on my list: a cruise (I need to face my fears) and the Saint Pierre Cathedral, which’s towers supposedly offer a great view.
