Today, I got up at 7.30am because there was a long day of harvesting ahead of us. I had crêpes for breakfast, so the day started off good. Shortly past eight, we headed towards the vineyards in Argis.
Until lunch, I harvested in complete quiet. Nobody was talking; everyone just enjoyed the silence. Loyally by my side was Jabba. We had lunch very late and I was really hungry already. After the long lunch break, Michael and I got together again to harvest. We had a lot of fun and some interesting conversations, as always.
1pm vs. 6pm
We then realized that the harvest would take longer than initially anticipated. Therefore, I decided to take a later train, so I – and no one else either – would get stressed. We were back by the house at 6.30pm and first thing, I took a shower to get rid of all the dirt from the harvest. (Harvesting red grapes is a sticky thing.) Afterwards, I packed my things. Mélina kept me company.
Mission: Best Friends: accomplished!
Since I was taking a later train, I could stay for dinner. Luc’s parents were there as well. My time with the Bauers ended in a really nice way.
The goodbye was quick and – mostly – painless. (Wistful, yes.) Michael said that I could message him anytime about my grammar and vocabulary related questions. We will definitely stay in touch and maybe we’ll meet again for the harvest next year.
Luc and Clémence thanked me for everything, even though it should be me thanking them. I had – once again – a wonderful time here and will definitely take them up on their offer to come back any time.
Daniel, Luc’s Dad, drove me to the train station, where I took the train to Geneva. And so I’m sitting here right now, writing my blog. Really happy and yet a bit sad.
My train arrived in Geneva at 22:45. It took me less than 10 minutes to walk from the train station to the hostel. The check-in went smoothly (and in French!). I was positively surprised when I entered my room, because I had booked a bed in a 6-bed dormitory but got a 3-bed room. I have the upper bunk and am very happy with this. I put my things away, edited the few pictures I had taken today and then I went straight to bed.
Tomorrow, I’ll get up very early. I’m going to the movies at 10:30am (since that’s the reason I’m actually here) and want to see a bit of the city on my way there. It’s about 6km, so I’m estimating it will take me 2 hours. With taking pictures, that should be realistic!
