Today, I slept in again. I woke up at 8.30am and stayed in bed for a while to read. My cold has gotten a lot better, so my night was far more restful than the one before.
After breakfast, I got some things for uni done and then I studied French. To do so, I went on a website for children that explains the human body. I only had to look up a handful of words; most words I understood without any help. I’m very proud of that, even if I miss the age of the target audience by almost 20 years.
We had lunch outside again. The weather is simply phenomenal. It has only rained twice in the past two weeks and most day it was well over 20°C. Absolutely no comparison to last year. We’re definitely making the most of the weather. Today I thought that I would eat less then usual, since I barely did anything the whole morning. But I didn’t consider Clémence in my equation, who brought out dessert and – after we had eaten that – chocolate. I can’t – and don’t want to – say “no”, so I ate some of everything. You won’t see me complaining about being offered more food around here! (Except if we’re talking about snails. Or lentils.)
After lunch, Luc, Michael and I loaded up a trailer full of pomace. By “we” I mean that Luc and Michael did all the hard work and I only distributed the pomace equally on the trailer. We then drove to the compost heap, where we unloaded the pomace, before we went to the garden. There, we picked apples. At first, we picked up all the apples that had already fallen from the tree, then we picked as many as we could by hand, and then Michael climbed into the apple tree and gave it a good shaking.
Working bent over was more exhausting for me than I had anticipated, but I do still have a cold. Luckily, the apple tree shaded us from the sun. Still, I got so hot that I took off my hairband. (for the unflattering result: see photo.)

Crazy hair while picking apples.

When we were done, the trunk was almost completely full with apples – from just one tree.
Michael and I went back to the house on foot, where we helped unloading the apples. Afterwards, Michael tested some wine barrels and I took some pictures. Not much came of it – I’m blaming my cold – and that’s why there aren’t any high-quality pictures today.

The wine we had harvested the sunday before.

Before dinner, I read some more and then got myself informed about Geneva. I’ll travel there on Saturday after the harvest. A couple of days ago, I had already booked a bed in a hostel and the bus ticket home. I will be spending 3 nights and 3 days in Geneva before taking a bus back to Munich late Tuesday night; hopefully arriving at home Wednesday morning.
After dinner, Luc talked a bit about the production process of wine. Somehow, we came to talk about Latin and how bad the conjugation and declination of Latin words is. Luc and Michael both said that there are no irregular verbs in their respective mother tongues. I – of course – had to disagree immediately. In return – even though I do know that they exist – I couldn’t think of any in German, but Luc and Clémence knew some. In the end, we all agreed that Latin is the worst and that German comes in at second.
Clémence had made some tea with rum again for Michael and me, and I took some medication for my cold. I’m hoping that I’ll be fit again tomorrow. I want to be able to enjoy my last days here, to be able to work properly and, of course, I want to have a lot of nice experiences in Geneva, too.
